Perched on a 6-hectare seaside limestone cliff in Panglao Island is Bohol’s luxury leisure resort. Amorita is currently undergoing a revitalized transformation to become a living exhibit of Bohol’s Best in terms of culture, resources and arts & crafts. All this, with a distinct boutique resort feel.
Designed to keep the authentic Boholano character and spirit alive, Amorita’s new design and architecture showcases modern Philippine design sensibilities woven into its Spanish-influenced local culture. Employing local building techniques and using organic, natural materials abundant in the area created a very strong local identity and sense of place.
The challenge of being located on top of the famous beach resulted in an exciting design solution that features unique advantages and facilities not offered by competition. The planning and orientation of structures and spaces was done to take full advantage of lush landscape, fresh sea breeze, and the best panoramic views of Alona Beach and the Bohol Sea.
Amorita’s architectural and design approach is Organic Modern: it does not take away from the inherent beauty of its natural surroundings but in fact, enhances it. Mindful that the development should have minimal impact to its environment, much effort was made to conserve existing trees and plant local ones, preserve natural contours, utilize indigenous elements and lessen carbon footprint.
Clean lines are combined with organic materials to make it blend well with the environment. Solid limestone, limestone plaster, bare pigmented concrete, bamboo, repurposed timber, clay, glass and steel are used. Finishes were chosen for its raw quality that develops character with age and exposure to the elements.
